Just a few quick thoughts before tonight's exhilarating Western Mass Division II volleyball match between Amherst and Agawam...try to contain your excitement, God knows I am.

1. I'm grumpy today because Deval Patrick will be our next governor. This whole campaign was eerily similar to the Red Sox-Yankees race, or lack thereof this year. Both candidates started out pretty strong with the Red Sox (in this analogy, Kerry Healey) looking better than some expected. However, as the season/campaign approached the stretch run, the Red Sox had their injuries, Healy her negative campaign ads, and the Yankees (or Patrick), breeze to the finish line. And unfortunately, I think our state will see about as much success as the Yankees did once they get to the playoffs.

2. Roger Clemens filed for free agency yesterday. This is the first stand I'm taking on this, likely to change, but I'm going to have to say no thanks to the Rocket re-launching in Boston. Too much money (12 million a month?!?) to pitch in the hitter-friendly American League. Results outweigh nostalgia here for me.
That's all I have for now, maybe I'll check in with reaction to tonight's match later.

oh come on ... patrick has some great ideas. Giving illegals drivers license's and educational benefits even though they dont pay into the tax system, tax increases that will be necessary to pay for his social programs that will drive businesses out of state and hurt wage earners. Taxachusetts will be back ... where's dukakis?!?!

And clemens earned about 3.5 million a month last year and in his only games against american leage teams he gave up 2 earned runs in 5 innings against the twins (his first start back) and 1 earned run in 6.1 innings against the tigers at detroit. He can still pitch and for a year i think he could help the sox as a solid #3 starter, not to mention his advice to the young guys would be invaluable. I mean hell, its better than clement or tavarez.
